Abstract
.
Entire urban areas change appearance. There is a turnover of people belonging to different social classes: from proletarians and middle class to upper middle class. With little administrative and political control, the interests of construction companies spread.
Areas go from rental to ownership. Costs become impossible, we are witnessing a rise in prices in general, the new prices to survive a lifetime, the previous Life is broken. A kind of forced migration takes place. In those areas not only people with low incomes lived, but groups of human beings lived there who made up Communities with a History, a Tradition, strong family and social ties. These people find themselves penniless, trying to rebuild a community, a very difficult process when the change of residence is generated by external changes independent of one’s will. The
building contractors make their own interests. But it is the public bodies, the local bodies that have to take care of social reforms, to take care of everyone. It is enshrined in article 3 of the Constitution of the Italian Republic.
Before gentrification occurs, we must care of making those neighborhoods more livable, equipped with the necessary services to be able to call them “cities”. It is necessary that all parts of a city, all its neighborhoods, benefit, and widely, from the indispensable services.
And we doctors, we family doctors, are witnesses of these family and life upheavals of our patients, and we must be part of it and raise our voices, having vision and role for Health and Sociality.
